Valley Forge Elementary parents seek members for involvement group

Seeing a need, Hannah Del Freeman-Hill and April Andrews were quick to come up with a plan to help Valley Forge Elementary.
During a brainstorm session in the fall, the duo were able to create Valley Forge Parent Involvement — a club geared toward parents of students at the school — and are now hoping to recruit new members for the mission of giving back to students and the rest of the school.
“My daughter has been at the school since kindergarten and she’s now in fourth grade,” Andrews said. “We kept seeing teachers going out of their way to buy different things for their class, out of pocket, and we were hoping to do something to help.”
Since the fall, the organization has worked to put together a handful of fundraisers, including a couple of dances and a T-shirt sale to help cover the cost of needed items at the school. Just recently, the involvement group was able to raise enough funds to purchase an additional printer for the school — along with toner and other items.
While the membership is looking to grow, Andrews added support has been available from several outlets. Along with the school, Andrews said Pioneer Tattoo and Farm Supply of Elizabethton helped the organization with one of their dances.
“It really has been great to see the support from the community,” she said. “When we first started the group, we weren’t sure how the support would be. It is great to see different people take an investment in the school.”
But moving forward, Andrews added the goal is to have more parents and support for the involvement group. Parents of students can learn more about the group by via email at valleyforgepi@yahoo.com or visiting the Valley Forge Parent Involvement Facebook page online. With the group being small due to its recent creation, Andrews thanked Sweetsie Treats for letting the group meet to discuss projects.
