Local residents will soon have the opportunity to hear from their elected officials during the annual Legislative Breakfast coming up next month.
Each year, the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce hosts the Legislative Breakfast as a way to help put citizens in touch with their representatives in government, for the elected officials to hear from their constituents, and to also as a way to raise money for the Chamber’s operations.
“This is a time for our community come out and hear from our elected officials about what they’re voting on and the issues that are coming up,” said Chamber Director Tonya Stevens.
This year’s event will be held on Friday, March 9, at 7:30 a.m. at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Elizabethton.
Stevens said this year’s breakfast will follow the Chamber’s traditional format where the elected officials will be allowed time to address those in attendance and at the end of the breakfast the panel will field questions from the audience.
WJHL News anchor Josh Smith will once again serve as the moderator for the event, Stevens said.
The panel of elected officials has not yet been finalized according to Stevens.
“We will have our local mayors and our state officials, both the Senators and Representatives,” Stevens said. “We’ve invited our federal folks. Their schedules are very fluid, so we never have a solid confirmation from them until closer to the event.”
The Elizabethton High School Men’s Ensemble will once again be providing entertainment during the breakfast, Stevens said.
“We will have a full breakfast catered by Fatz,” Stevens said. “It’s always a good meal.”
Tickets for the event are $25 per person and may be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce in person or by telephone. Stevens said she encourages those interested in attending to purchase their tickets in advance because seating is limited.
