Edith Williams, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Hillview Health Center after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Carter County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Williams, February 4, 2006; a grandson, Walter Slagle; her parents, Lionel and May Pierce Vandeventer; a sister, Pearl Hilman; and a brother, Arlin Vandeventer.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and always enjoyed helping her husband on the farm. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Diana Hodge and her husband, Hugh, May Slagle and her husband, Walt, and Kay Rowland and her husband, Gordon; two grandsons, Travis Rowland and his wife, Christy, and Nathan Hodge and his fiancée, Crystal Rowe; one granddaughter, Charity Rowland Gunn; one great-grandson, Bryson Rowland; three great-granddaughters, Caitlyn and Breanna Gunn and Maggie Rowland; and a brother, Floyd Vandeventer. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hillview Health Center for their care of our mom and also her brother, Floyd Vandeventer, and the ladies from Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, who frequently visited with our mom.
Funeral services for Mrs. Williams will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Harper and Tyler Hyder.
