When it comes to looking toward the future, one downtown historical landmark is going back to its previous ways.
Somewhat fitting for the recent blast of wintry weather, the Bonnie Kate Theater will host a showing of the Disney animated movie “Frozen” on Saturday, Jan. 20. Times for the showings are set for 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. while admission is pegged at $3.
Getting the agenda rolling for 2018 is nothing out of the ordinary compared to last year’s busy itinerary, according to Bonnie Kate Programs Coordinator Marcia Ross.
“We were looking at having an event that’s family-friendly and open to everyone in the community,” Ross told the Elizabethton Star Tuesday. “This is our first big event of the new year.”
But like with any other event at the facility, Ross was quick to send out thanks to the community members that have continually helped keep these events in a steady rotation at the theater.
Ross spent time Tuesday inside the facility putting some of the final touches together for the upcoming endeavor and shared some of the tales of camaraderie from the region.
To assist with the weekend showing, Ross alluded to the fact that Dr. Wayne Smith from Johnson City helped procured lighting and sound systems to ensure attendees have a joyful experience inside the facility.
“It really was exciting when he helped us get the equipment,” Ross said during a tour of the inside of the theater.
Another extra addition on tap is a large red carpet that was donated by Winchester, which will be used for children looking to have some fun, according to Ross. Along with the showings of the movie, children that attend have the chance to sing along and dance with some of the characters that will be inside the Bonnie Kate.
While the preparation is near conclusion for this week, middle and school students will soon have an opportunity to make their mark at the Bonnie Kate.
Musical theater auditions will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, from 4 to 5 p.m. as students work toward a spring production. A youth theater classes for ages 6-10 will also be available on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
The eight-week course will meet each Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with registration pegged at $50 per students. Participants will have their performance on April 7.
