Mike Glover, 54, of Knoxville, Tenn., lost his battle with cancer on Monday, December 18, 2017. Known to many in the Fountain City area as “Tie Dye Mike”, Mr. Glover was frequently seen in his colorful shirts running errands, picking up his daughters and their friends at school, and volunteering with the Girl Scouts.
Mike was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to Norman Peter “Pete” Glover, and the late Waynie Thexton Bowling, on March 28, 1963. He attended Hampton High School, where he was active in 4H, receiving several awards and scholarships which helped send him to UT Knoxville, from which he graduated with honors in 1984.
While working in Parks and Recreation in Knox County, Blount County and the City of Knoxville, Mike had daily contact with a wide spectrum of the public, and he enjoyed forming relationships and assisting people achieve fuller lives through recreation.
Mike aided his country by serving in the military, with the last portion of his 20+ year enlistment spent as a Storekeeper in the Navy Reserve Cargo Handling Battalion #12, until his retirement in 2003.
Mike was primarily raised by his grandparents, Tom and Edith Glover. He is survived by his father Pete Glover (Elizabethton), stepmother Betty Presnell Glover (Elizabethton), wife Alyson Walker-Glover (Knoxville), daughters Meredith Glover and Madolin Glover (Knoxville), Lillian Glover (Louisville, Ky.), and stepchildren Heath Nicholls and Camlin Nicholls (Knoxville). Also grieving are stepbrother Jimmy Berry, stepsisters Jackie Cuevas and Jo Hogan, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services for Mike Glover will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, December 22, in the McKinney Cemetery (Long Hollow), Elizabethton. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
