Carl “Butch” Massey

Carl “Butch” Massey, 55, of Johnson City, passed away, of natural causes, on Monday, December 18, 2017, at his residence. He was a native of Johnson City and son of Rebekah Hope Cannon Massey and the late Carl Edward Massey Sr.
Butch was a former co-owner of Massey Brothers painting contractors. He was most recently the Facilities Supervisor at the Mini Dome at ETSU. Butch was extremely proud to be part of the ETSU family. Mr. Massey began his employment at ETSU as a custodian and was promoted to custodian/maintenance supervisor in 2012. He also served for several years as a senator on the ETSU Staff Senate. Butch and his wife Candy especially enjoyed camping and attending ETSU athletic events.
In addition to Butch’s mother, those family members left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 27 years, Candy Swartz Massey; his goddaughter, Amanda Burchett; sister, Robin McGregor, and her husband Keith; his “Second Dad,” Uncle Bob Massey, Uncle Mike Cannon and his wife Elaine; brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Heather Swartz; his extended family, and special friends, Ray and Teresa Burchett, and numerous other friends.
The family will greet friends to share memories of Butch on Friday, December 22, from 5 until 7 p.m. in the Sunset Room of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City.
