Jean Crain

Jean Crain, of Elizabethton, took her Savior’s hand and stepped out into eternity on Thursday, December 14, 2017, from the Johnson City Medical Center. Jean was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Clifton and Bertha Heaton Roark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Faye Nave.
Jean was a former employee of Sperry Univac and was the former owner and operator of Erwin’s Floral and Gift Shop in Roan Mountain. She was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, where she served on various committees. Jean loved flowers, being home with her family and her dogs, but especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, Delaney Crain, of the home; a son, Kelly Crain and wife Teresa, of Elizabethton; twin daughters, Connie Bowery and husband Tony and Caren Hill and Grady, all of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Whitney James and husband Ben, Dylan Hill and fiancée Emily Street and Cameron Crain, all of Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren, Marlee Faith James and Gracie Jean James, both of Elizabethton; her sisters, Shirley Johnson and Judy Heaton and husband Bill, all of Roan Mountain, and Sandy Miller and husband Larry, of Elizabethton; and one brother, Larry Roark and wife Joan, of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews, along with her special friend, Sue Hamm, also survive.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Jean Crain will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Hawk, Rev. Daniel Fink and Rev. Ben James officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Hamm. Active pallbearers will be Cameron Crain, Dylan Hill, Ted Walsh, Kenny Johnson, Kyle Heaton and Tony Bowery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Doe River Baptist Church, friends and neighbors. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession.
