Looking for a furry friend to share the holidays with? The Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter has you covered.
With Christmas around the bend, the shelter is offering the inaugural “All I Want For Christmas Is You!” adoption event Dec. 14-16 where residents can stop by and adopt a cat or dog free of charge.
“We received sponsorship from a generous resident from the community,” Shelter Director Shannon Posada said. “With the sponsorship, we are able to waive adoption fees to help our cats and dogs find homes for the holidays.”
With the shift in temperature, the goal of the event is to help free up space at the shelter for animals that may need a place to stay in the winter season.
“Our goal is to help our animals at the shelter find homes for the holidays,” Posada said. “When we can free up space at the shelter, we can offer a space for some animals that may be out in the cold. We want to make sure they have a place to go so that they have a chance to find a home.”
Next weekend concludes a laundry list of projects offered by the shelter. But as 2017 comes to a close, the facility is preparing for a busy new year.
“We’ve very appreciative of all the support we’ve been able to receive from the community,” Posada said. “For the new year, we have a lot of projects and programs coming through the pipeline. We’re excited and looking forward to the positive changes continuing for the new year.”
Volunteer opportunities are still available at the facility. Posada added that residents wanting to help out with the animals can stop by the facility during regular business hours to fill out an application.
