Harris will not seek re-election as committeeman

To the editor:
I will not seek re-election as the Republican State Committeeman for Carter, Unicoi and Washington counties. I have enjoyed serving the citizens on the state level as their committeeman. It has been an exciting time and I was privileged to represent our area at the Republican Convention and to be a small part of helping elect a Republican president and other Republican candidates.
I believe in term limits and I want to give someone else the chance to experience all of the things I have as your committeeman. I have taken out papers and am considering a run as county commissioner for District two in Washington County (Embreeville, Conklin, New Salem, West View, Limestone, South Central communities.) I have been a vocal critic of the largest tax increase in Washington County history and talk of more to come. All of the millions in taxpayer giveaways. The lack of support against the methadone clinic in Gray from many commission members. The failure of the commission to support a resolution supporting Biblical marriage.
I believe the county instead of giving away millions should take better care of our best assets, our county employees, many of whom have to work two jobs to make it.
Again, thank you for allowing me to serve as your elected Committeeman for Carter, Unicoi and Washington counties.
Sincerely,
Kent Harris
Retired Sheriff, Unicoi County
and Washington County resident
