Lady ‘Landers hold off poor-shooting Warriors

Happy Valley picked a bad time to have a poor shooting performance as Cloudland knocked off the home-standing Lady Warriors 49-30 on Tuesday night at Bayless Gym. The Warriors shot 11-for-38 in this one (28.9 percent) and fell into a deep hole they never could climb out of.

“That’s a darn good job from a bunch of pups,” joked Lady ‘Landers head coach Mike Lunsford. “Jasmine Birchfield got a lot of rebounds for us and that is her best asset. Stacia Wilson could be the best athlete in this area if she just believed in herself and understood where her talent lies.”

Both players played a big role in the victory as Birchfield collected 10 rebounds and scored eight points with Wilson pulling down six boards. Kaitlyn Roberts led HV with 10 points on the night, but Trinity Vines scored a game-high 15 for the ‘Landers.

Cloudland (7-1) led all the way and took a 25-17 lead at the half with Vines scoring 12 in the half. Cloudland outscored HV 14-4 in the third period and the rout was on from there. Kenzie Birchfield had 11 points for Cloudland with Adrienne Henegar scoring eight for HV.

HV made a push in the fourth quarter after back to back buckets from Olivia Absher and Henegar to cut the ‘Landers lead to 44-27, but Birchfield dropped in a dagger three to make it a 20 point game at 47-27.
