It is a simple recipe – Elizabethton High School’s drama department plus the Bonnie Kate Theater equals success.
Met by soldout crowds, students concluded their fall performances of “The Great Gatsby” inside the historic building Saturday night. The performance was Simon Levy’s adaptation of the original novel penned by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925.
Meg Foster, EHS drama teacher, praised the efforts of the students prior to showtime and thanked attendees for their continued support of local performances.
“This Fall, I knew I had the right people to make a stellar cast,” Foster said in a statement to the Elizabethton Star. “We are so excited to bring a story that so many people enjoy to the stage.”
Lead cast members were Baylor Anderson (Jay Gatsby), Marquis Bush (Nick Carraway), Hannah Roaten (Daisy Buchanan), JP Abner (Tom Buchanan), Mattie Carr (Jordan Baker), Bess Allen (Myrtle Wilson), and Bailey Marvel (George Wilson).
The Bonnie Kate Theater is continuing to pick up traction heading into 2018 as efforts grow for restoration of the building. Residents and supporters of the performing arts can contribute to the cause with donations. Proceeds going to operation costs and improvements of the building.
