Don’t expect cooler temperatures to hamper the hotbed of action at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library.
Whether it’s preparing for tests, learning computer skills or finding out about public health, ECCPL staff have a bevy of events coming up over the weeks.
Community Outreach Specialist Becca Dugger recently announced to the Elizabethton Star that the facility will host a health fair on site from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6.
Dugger added that several booths will be set up throughout the two-hour affair, including Contact 211, The Wellness Center, The Health Resource Center, Essential Oils, Elizabethton Parks & Rec and UT – Extension.
Along with booths, Dugger added different hands-on resources will be available for residents.
East Tennessee Spay & Neuter will also be on hand to provide health for pets. Carter County Health Department will also be offering instruction for hands-only CPR while Walgreens will provide 20 free flu shot vouchers for the upcoming season.
“Anyone with TennCare will be able to get a free flu shot as well,” Dugger added. “Tri-Cities Health will be doing free health screenings and Blood Assurance will have their blood mobile for anyone interested in donating blood.”
From the technological side of the facility, Maryann Owen alluded to the fact the library will open up computer classes to the general public thanks in part to a grant received from the state.
Classes start Tuesday, Nov. 7, and continue throughout the months delving into basic computer information to maneuvering through the Internet.
Having the opportunity to go through the technologic world has been a well-utilized tool for the library, according to Owen, who added the classes will help fill a want by patrons that have asked about courses.
