There’s nothing “Frosty” about the play from a trio of local student athletes.

Officials from Elizabethton High School recently announced Abby Bryan and Ethan Eggleston were named Wendy’s High School Heisman winners.

“These students are known by their teachers and friends for their commitment to excellence,” said Josh Boatman, Elizabethton High School principal. “We are excited and honored that a program like Wendy’s High School Heisman is also recognized their hard work.”

Ethan Eggleston has been a key component of the Cyclones baseball team while Bryan has made waves on the field as part of the EHS soccer program.

From Unaka High School, softball standout Corie Schuettler received the nod. Schuettler was one of the essential cogs in the Lady Rangers state tournament run in 2017.

For their achievements, students received a patch and certificate and were placed in a drawing with other students from across the state.

A release from the school indicated  Wendy’s and the Heisman Trophy Trust have been “running the same play to perfection: honoring more than 600,000 of the nation’s most esteemed students. This year, Wendy’s will celebrate the accomplishments of thousands of the best high school seniors, awarding winners in five phases.”

Overall winners from schools were able to be placed in a drawing for a potential scholarship.

When describing the program’s history, the organization’s website states, “Dave Thomas dropped out of high school when he was 15 years old in order to work full-time and went on to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history. While this nontraditional path led to this prosperity, it always worried Dave the others would expect to achieve similar fame and wealth by not finishing high school or attending college.”
