Opal Ruth Malone Scott

Opal Ruth Malone Scott, 90, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Watauga, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 29, 2017, from Beacon Place Hospice in Greensboro, N.C., following a brief illness. Opal was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Earl and Chessie Bare Malone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ross Scott Jr.; two sons, Walter “Tee Hee” Scott and Larry Gene Scott; a daughter, Sandra Kay Scott Carver; and several brothers and sisters.
Opal had worked at Bemberg in the spinning room and afterwards she had worked as a caregiver. She was a member of Fellowship Community Church of Watauga and she enjoyed being with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Kathy Scott Foust and husband Johnny, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Loretta Ruth Scott Rasnick and Floyd Robertson, of Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Thomas Raymond Scott, of Lisbon, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Tisa Scott, of Watauga; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Opal Ruth Malone Scott will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 2, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Paul Peer, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Carver, Brian Carver, Michael Foust, Chris Rasnick, Dakota Scott, Dawson Foust, John Ross Rasnick and Kip Allen Grooms. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Gene Oaks. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession.
