Police are investigating the burglary of a county school special needs classroom where several items were stolen.
On Tuesday, Carter County Sheriff’s Office Deputy David Munsey, who serves as the School Resource Officer at Hunter Elementary, received a report from Principal Mark Revis that the school had been broken into over the long weekend.
According to police reports, two suspects broke into a modular unit at the school which housed Rebekah Grindstaff’s Comprehensive Development Curriculum (CDC) special needs classroom.
Grindstaff told Munsey several items had been stolen from her classroom including iPads, a DVD player, a water painting, two laptop bags, computer equipment, cleaning supplies, and student supplies. The estimated value of the stolen items is $2,944.50 according to Munsey’s report on the theft.
“The school was able to detect on camera that the incident started at 12:33 a.m. on Saturday morning and they exited the school property at 2:36 a.m. Saturday morning,” Munsey said, adding the security video contains “some pretty good video of the subjects.”
During the preliminary investigation into the incident, Munsey said as he searched the school property he found one of the laptop bags with two iPads and cleaning supplies inside and an additional backpack with cleaning supplies and the water painting inside.
