Crowdsourcing efforts are underway to help a local family get back on track following a fire that took place last week in Elizabethton.
Members of the public reached out to the Elizabethton Star to indicate a GoFundMe page online has been created to help residents Sheryl Snyder, Ashley and their daughter, Jasmine, after their home and belongings were destroyed in an apartment complex fire Thursday.
According to information received by friends close to the situation, the family has been able to find another house to live in, after having to stay in a hotel room, but are needing to replenish their household belongings.
As of Monday, Aug. 21, the GoFundMe page has raised $750 of a $3,000 target goal. Individuals can visit www.gofundme.com/sheryl-ashley-jasmine-house-fire to make a monetary donation or learn more about donating items that can be used.
The Elizabethton Star reported the fire took place Thursday morning around 2:17 a.m. with the Elizabethton Fire Department responding to a structure fire at 711 1/2 West H St. Thursday’s fire fully engulfed the building, which featured four different apartments.
Red Cross assisted those involved in the incident but the GoFundMe page, reportedly created by Samantha Snider to benefit the family, indicated funds raised would go to support the pay for hotel expenses and other needed essentials.
Thursday’s was the first of two fire combatted by local fire departments, with the second taking place on the 1700 block of West Elk Avenue.
