Adelina Gibson Elmore Cronkhite passed away at Sycamore Springs Assisted Living Facility in Elizabethton, Tenn., Tuesday, July 11, 2017. She peacefully departed this life with her loving family by her bedside.
Adelina was born June 24, 1923 to Frank Harper Elmore Jr. and Blanche Larcom Elmore in Dallas, Texas. She was one of five sisters, Louise Doran, Charlotte Elmore, Mary Roughton and Evelyn Hill. Adelina was a graduate of North Dallas High School. She loved swimming and was a member of the school’s swim team. She worked as a secretary for Locke Insulator, a division of General Electric in Dallas.
Adelina married John Lyle Cronkhite Sr., distinguished World War II Bomber pilot and Korean War veteran, on March 15, 1946. They were married for 66 years until his death in 2012. Adelina was a loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother, whose joy and delight was in her family. She enjoyed traveling as a military officer’s wife. The family lived in Panama, Trinidad, France, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and San Antonio, Texas. They traveled in Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Paris, France, Spain and Italy.
Adelina is survived by one sister, Mary Roughton of Dallas, Texas; her five children, Elizabeth A. Laudieri of Casstown, Ohio, John Lyle Cronkhite Jr. of Pharr, Texas, Thomas A. Cronkhite of Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico, Jerry E. Cronkhite of Seattle, Wash., and Katherine E. Freeman of Elizabethton, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough. The graveside service will be on Thursday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach, San Antonio, TX. You are invited to sign the Guestbook at www.porterloring.com
