Carter Mansion Tour — 2 p.m. Built by Watauga settlement leaders, John and Landon Carter in 1775, a tour of Tennessee’s oldest frame home is a must!  Adults – $5.00 (cash only please); 17 and under free.

Fort Tour — 3:30 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Meet at the back doors of the Visitors Center for an informative stroll through Fort Watauga and discover how settlers in the 1770s defended their homes and changed the course of the American Revolution.

Friday, July 7

The Elizabethton Senior Center will host a Red, White, and Blue Pancake Breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Center, 428 E. G St. Tickets are $5 and carryouts will be available. The menu will include plain, blueberry or pecan pancakes with a variety of toppings, sausage, juice and coffee. All proceeds go to support the Senior Center. For more information, call 543-4362.

Musket Firing Demonstration — 11:30 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Meet Stuart in the fort for a demonstration of the loading and firing of the Brown Bess musket.

Cemetery Symbolism — 3:30 p.m. Ever wonder what the artwork on historic gravestones meant? Head out across the lawn after the Carter Mansion tour to translate the language of cemetery symbolism in the Carter, Thomas, and community plots.

Saturday, July 8

The William Grant and Eva Whitehead Roberson Family Reunion will be held at Roan Mountain State Park, Shed #1. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. All family members and friends are invited to attend. For more information, call Pat at 725-4461.

The James Montgomery Family Reunion will be held at Hampton Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Everyone will gather at noon. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish, dessert and drinks. For more information, call Helen Nave at 543-8105.

The Trusler-Large Family Reunion will be held at Meredith Valley Cabins, 341 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. sharp. Bring your favorite dishes to share and “Show-Off” for the family. On Sunday there will be a picnic at Watauga Lake. There will be grilling so bring any meats and sides you would like to add. There will also be swimming and games. Bring your sunscreen, lounge chairs, swimsuits and sodas. It will be a great time of relaxing. We hope to see everyone there. Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo. Potter says for those who haven’t yet purchased a gun, loaner guns are available.
