Mountain States Health Alliance is continuing their pledge of supporting area postsecondary schools by creating opportunities for individuals to pursue employment in the medical field.
Milligan College recently announced the health system is providing scholarship opportunities for students looking to get into the nursing field. The scholarship is in addition to other Milligan aid.
“Milligan is very pleased to have the support of Mountain States Health Alliance,” said Dr. Lee Harrison, vice president for marketing and enrollment management. “Their investment in our students as future healthcare leaders is a testament to the high schools we all value.”
The MSHA nursing scholarship will provide up to $5,000 per year toward tuition plus up to an additional $3,000 per year for books and other fees student may incur, according to Milligan’s website.
Students that apply for the scholarship must agree to accept full-time employment with MSHA within the first month of graduation of a period of three years. According to Milligan, students are typically eligible for the scholarship opportunity heading into their sophomore year when enrolled in “required program courses at the clinical level (200, 300 or 400).”
Developing these partnerships are key for the development of the medical field locally, according to MSHA CEO Alan Levine. The CEO recently spoke with the Elizabethton Star during an event held in Bristol to highlight healthcare issues within the region.
“We’ve been able to have a great partnership with Milligan,” Levine told the Star. “It’s such a great institution.”
