With local baseball teams entering district tournaments, the Watauga Valley Conference released its list of postseason honors this week.
Towards the top of that list was Unaka pitcher John “Boy” Ramsey. The league selected Ramsey as the 2017 WVC Pitcher of the Year. Over the regular season, Ramsey recorded 71 strikeouts against 13 walks over 46 innings. Batters that faced the sophomore slinger were held to a batting average of .122.
Ramsey is not the only Unaka player to make the list. Rangers’ John-Wesley Hardin, Isaac Hill, Bryson Street, and Blake King were all selected to the All-Conference team.
Also making the All-Conference squad was Hampton’s Wyatt Lyons and Gavin Hardin along with Cloudland’s Noah Arnett.
North Greene’s Zane Potter was selected Most Valuable Player while fellow Huskies Cas Blevins and Welsey Dotson were picked as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.
Other All-Conference picks were North Greene’s Matthew Paige, Andy Stevens, and Cameron Freshour, University High’s Carter Pallock, Jack Bembry, and Hunter Seehorn and South Greene’s Branden Smith.
