Unaka drops contest to Lady Buccaneers

The Unaka Lady Rangers were handed their first league loss Wednesday as they fell 4-3 to the University Lady Buccaneers in Stoney Creek.
The Lady Rangers lead the Watauga Valley Conference with a 6-1 mark while holding an 18-12 overall record. The Lady Bucs improved to 7-3 in the WVC.
Wednesday, the Lady Rangers would find themselves in an early deficit as UH’s Miranda Honeycutt knocked a three-run homer to push the Lady Buccaneers out 3-0.
In the bottom of the third, the Lady Rangers bettered their situation with two runs as Sarah Tipton brought home, Beth Lowe. Later in the inning, Unaka’s Sydney Markland singled to net teammate Sarah Hardin to make it 3-2 heading into the fourth.
The Lady Rangers knotted things up 3-3 as Unaka’s Katlyn Weaver brought in Madison Pierce with a single.
However, the Lady Bucs picked up the go-ahead run in the fifth as Ari Ramsaran smacked a solo homer out of left field.
