A historic piece of entertainment in Elizabethton is partnering with the Relay For Life of Carter County to combat cancer this Relay season.
The State Line Drive-In is hosting a special movie night on Thursday, April 13, by presenting the children’s film “Trolls” to the public. Gates open at 7:15 p.m. with the movie tentatively scheduled to start around 8:20 p.m. according to Kathy Thomason, who serves at the publicity chair for the county chapter of Relay for Life.
Price for admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children. Throughout the evening, concessions will be provided by Relay For Life teams – popcorn, nachos, drinks, candy bars, hot dogs and homemade items – for a reasonable price. All proceeds from the event will go toward the county’s Relay For Life chapter.
“We’re excited about this event,” Thomason said. “We’ve decided on a great family-friendly film. It’s a great time for families to come together for a fun and relatively cheap night to benefit a great cause.”
Thomas also thanked State Line Drive-In owner Andy Wetzel for his partnership in the endeavor.
“We didn’t want to take away from his business,” she said. “He works with the fire department and actually took part in one of our benefit basketball games. He’s been very support of Relay For Life and we’re very grateful for allowing us to have a movie night Thursday.”
Thomason also added that luminaires are still available. The bags are used during the Relay For Life walk event and will be lit when darkness hits the track to honor families and loved ones that have been or currently affected by cancer. Bags can be purchased for $5 by contacting a Relay For Life member and can be picked up at any local Edward Jones office or can be picked up the night of the event.
“During Easter, we encourage anybody that’s looking to remember a loved one who has battled with cancer to purchase a luminaria,” Thomason said. “The bags will be on display during our Relay night.”
