MARS HILL, N.C. — Lenny Robert Malo, 51, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at his home.
A native of Elizabethton, Tenn., he had resided in WNC since 2004. He was formerly employed as a welder and also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Tennessee. He was a Mason, and served in the U.S. Army and the Tennessee National Guard during the Gulf War.
Lenny was a son of Robert Joseph Malo of Killeen, Texas, and the late Mary Blanche Cassel Dickey.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife, whom he married September 17, 2005, Wona Taylor Malo, of the home; daughter, Lacie Marie Malo and husband Jason Church of Elizabethton, Tenn.; grandson, Noah Jay Malo of Elizabethton, Tenn.; special daughter, Rosie Chandler and the entire Chandler family of Mars Hill, N.C.; mother of his daughter, Michelle Campbell Payne of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sisters, Angel Kinney and husband Kasey of Searsport, Maine, and Sheri Potter and husband Jared of Watauga, Tenn.; brother, John Malo and wife Sherry of Killeen, Texas; several nieces and nephews, including his special great-niece and the love of his life, Sophia Jimenez, and her mother, Kristen Russell Jimenez; and his special buddies, Tucker and Titus.
Funeral services for Mr. Mayo will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home in Asheville, N.C., with Pastor Gene King officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C., with Military Honors to be conducted by the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
