Police have identified the woman found deceased in a parked vehicle on March 25 as a Kingsport resident.
On Friday morning, the Elizabethton Police Department released a statement saying the female has been positively identified as Carolyn Pleasant, 60, of Kingsport.
The investigation into Pleasant’s death began on Saturday, March 25, at 9:30 p.m. after officers of the Elizabethton Police Department responded to Walmart regarding a welfare check on a female subject inside a vehicle parked at the store. When officers arrived and checked the vehicle, they found the woman was deceased.
“From the investigation, we have been able to determine that Ms. Pleasant’s vehicle had been at that location for several weeks, and during that time she had passed away,” EPD Capt. Joy Shoun said.
Officers found no indication of foul play at the scene but handled the incident as a death investigation, Shoun said.
Investigators sent Pleasant’s body for an autopsy to try to determine the cause of the woman’s death. On Friday, Shoun said preliminary results from the autopsy had been released to investigators.
“Preliminary findings from the autopsy also indicate a lack of trauma and no indicators of foul play,” Shoun said. “The final autopsy results are still pending.”
Shoun said no other information is available to be released to the public at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
