Douglas Waldron Morrison, 86, of Elizabethton, formerly of Florham Park, N.J., and Conway, S.C., passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. Douglas was born in Baltimore, Md., to the late Reginald Cleaves Morrison and Edith Waldron Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mildred Meyer Morrison.
Douglas had been employed as an insurance claims examiner and adjuster. He was a United States National Guard veteran, having served in the 115th regiment of the 29th Infantry Division. Douglas was a founding member of the Florham Park Ecology Committee, served many terms as a Republican County Committee Man for the borough of Florham Park, and was a longtime member of and officer in the Florham Park Senior Citizens Club. He had also been a driver for the Southeast Morris Chapter of the American Red Cross. Douglas enjoyed landscaping, working outdoors, working on small engines and equipment and collecting model cars.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Marjorie Kiger, of Elizabethton; his son, John Morrison and wife Cathy, of Woodstown, N.J.; former son-in-law, Steven Kiger, of Annapolis, Md.; seven grandchildren, Meredith Burton and husband Lionel, of Columbia, Md., Douglas Kiger, of Elizabethton, Monica Kiger, of Frederick, Md., Christina Bramante and husband Robert, of Commack, N.Y., Caitlin Dombrosky and husband Jason, of Glassboro, N.J., Courtney Powell of Glassboro, N.J., and Collette Powell, of Woodstown, N.J.; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Reginald Cleaves Morrison Jr. and wife Carol, of Woodbine, Md.; a sister-in-law, Max Helbig, of Baltimore, Md.; a brother-in-law, William Meyer and wife Jo Carol, of Concord, N.C.; and his longtime companion, Janet Tomkovic, of Conway, S.C.
Services and inurnment will be conducted on Saturday, April 1, at Greenhill Cemetery in Berryville, Va. Friends may call at the home of his daughter from 3 until 6 p.m. Friday, March 24. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society, or to the Alzheimer’s Research.
