Vernon Lyons, 85, of Plantation, Fla., formerly of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Westside Regional Medical Center in Florida. Vernon was born on April 18, 1931 in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Robert and Annie Lyons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Clara Mae Lyons.
Those left to cherish his memory include second wife, Janet Lyons, of Plantation, Fla.; his and Clara’s children: Raymond Lyons and wife Nancy and Richard Lyons and wife Cindy; grandchildren with Clara: Kerri Lyons, Jonathan Lyons, Christopher Lyons, Melissa Mangin and husband Andrew Mangin, Vanessa Lago and Matthew Lago; and their great-grandchildren: Hailey Mangin and Colton Mangin; Janet’s children: Jonathan Doherty and wife Norine, Daniel Doherty and wife Kimm, and Sharon Doherty; Janet’s grandchildren: Nick Doherty, Alex Doherty, Dylan Doherty, Easton Doherty and Belle Doherty. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Vernon Lyons will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jerry Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
