Future diamond dandies of Elizabethton and Carter County are preparing for a new year of baseball and softball action.
Elizabethton/Carter County Youth Baseball & Softball Association recently concluded their main registration dates with rave reviews, according to the Elizabethton Parks & Recreation Department.
The league still has ample opportunities for girls, ages 11 to 12 years old, to sign up. Applications can be picked up by calling the department at (423) 547-6440.
Recreation Manager David Nanney estimated the new league was expecting between 800 to 1000 children to participate in the Elizabethton/Carter County Youth Baseball and Softball Association.
The association is a product of both the Carter County American League and Elizabethton National Cal Ripken deciding to disband and merge their leagues together.
After the decision was made months ago, an organizational chart was created to give all parties involved equal leadership roles within the association, including both leagues, the Parks & Rec staff, Parks & Rec board and the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County.
Updates on the league can be followed by visiting the Elizabethton/Carter County Facebook page online.
The City of Elizabethton’s Franklin Pool is also looking at hiring lifeguards for the 2017 season. Lifeguards are in charge of supervising patrons, performing daily maintenance, administrating first aid and CPR along with completing accident reports and other duties. The minimum requirements include lifeguard, CPR and first aid certification. Applications will be accepted beginning in April. For more information, contact the department.
