The Elizabethton City Council will convene inside the Council Chambers on Thursday, March 9, with a relatively light agenda on the docket.

Councilmen will go through a second and final reading of approving a transfer from the Schools Sales Tax account to purchase property adjacent to Harold McCormick Elementary School.

The price for the property is $85,000; the amount will come from the half-cent sales tax collected by the city and designated for the school system. The project would be paid from the school tax fund if approved.

In other business, officials will:

• Consider action on the first reading to amend the 2016-17 budget to recognize a donation made by Greene Enterprises for the Elizabethton Fire Department and the increase of the library’s appropriation from the county.

• Consider action to renew a contract with Doe River Technology for the city and Elizabethton Electric Department.

• Consider the motion of an initiative between the Elizabethton Police Department and Carter County Sheriff’s Office for drug enforcement.

• Consider the approval of a professional service agreement with Mattern & Craig, Inc. for engineering services related to utility relocations for a Tennessee Department of Transportation traffic signal project. The project involves improvements to State Routes 67 and 359 (Milligan Highway) along with 67 (West Elk Avenue) and Mill Street/McArthur Avenue.

• Consider the approval of an engineering quotation by Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories or work related to SCADA.

• Look to make appointments to the Equalization, Health & Education, Parks & Rec and Industrial Development boards.
