Pete Bryant

Pete Bryant, 82, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, following a courageous and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s for the past two years. Pete was born in Pinehurst, N.C., on March 16, 1934 to the late Leo and Sally Hill Bryant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Wortham; his father-in-law, Lawrence Trusler; and his fur baby, “Baxter.”
Pete retired as a tele-communications engineer from ITT/ Alcatel, after 22 years of service; he had also worked for United Inter-Mountain Telephone for over 20 years. He was a member of Roan Street Church of God and enjoyed all types of sports and hunting. Although Pete accomplished much with his intelligence and outgoing personality, he was above all a loving husband, a kind and caring friend and loved his pets and cared for them like family.
Those left behind to cherish Pete’s memory include his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Vickie Trusler Bryant, of the home; a sister, Phyllis Bryant, of Jonesboro, Ark.; his mother-in-law, Mary Louise Trusler, of the home; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Manning and husband Eddie, of Elizabethton, and JoAnn Brown, of Homosassa, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Larry Trusler and wife Tracy, of Hampton, and Wayne Trusler and wife Becky, of Marion, Ark.; his special little buddy and fur baby, “Bailey”; his special friend and caregiver, Kathy Greene; and his special friend, Jeff Turner. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family invites friends, family and acquaintances to help honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Pete Bryant at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ken Bewley and Rev. Shane Nivens officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or friends may call at the residence at any time. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Bryce Barker, Tyler Trusler, Benjamin Wilburn, Dylan Trusler, Jeff Turner and Sean Bays. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday. The family would like to say thank you to Amedisys Hospice, Pro Care Home Health Care, Carter County EMS, Dr. Mark Williams, Dr. James Goss, and his physical therapist Charles Hollowell, for the love, care and kindness shown to Pete and his family during his illness.
