Susan Renee James Snyder

Susan Renee James Snyder, 48, of Hampton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Susan was born on January 21, 1969 to Roma Jean Hodge and the late Harlan Banner.
Susan was a 1987 graduate of Hampton High School, where she was listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, was a member of the National Honor Society, a cheerleader, Miss HHS, and was crowned Beauty of Beauty and the Beast. She was an LPN and was of the Baptist faith.
Susan enjoyed riding bikes with her granddaughter, playing “Rally” in the yard with family, sharing clothing with her daughter, and laughing with friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Della Bunton and Lawton Hodge, as well as her paternal grandparents, Claude Banner and Ollie Hamby.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her daughter, Elizabeth Snyder, Johnson City, and the love of her life, her granddaughter, Marlei Snyder. Susan is leaving behind four beloved sisters, Poni Gentry and husband James, Becky Lawrence and husband Chuck, all of Elizabethton, Jeanne Garland and husband Joey, Hampton, and Patsy James and husband Nathan of Canada. She had a special friend, Matt Rebuk, and several nieces and nephews she loved, as well as a lifelong bond with Wesley Snyder.
Funeral services for Susan Renee James Snyder will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, February 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Davis officiating. Music will be provided by Marlei Snyder and Patsy Trivette. The graveside service and interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers for the graveside service will be Wesley Snyder, Derrick and Brandon Blackwell, Josh Lipford, Joey Garland and Nathan Eggley. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Banner, Tim Blevins, Chuck Lawrence and James Gentry. Susan’s family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Amedisys Hospice, especially Lori Ligon, Jerry, Scott and Chris, with a very special “Thank You” to John D. and Ethel Snyder. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Susan’s friends may also visit with the family at the residence of her mother, Roma Jean Hodge. Susan’s family and friends will assemble at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 11:50 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery. Susan’s contagious laughter and giving heart will be missed by all who knew her.
