It’s never too late to learn about economics.
That mindset has been adopted by schools across the country and continues to stay apparent to Thomas Davis. The Edward Jones Investments financial advisor made the trip to Happy Valley Middle School Monday morning and spoke with Judy Gwynn’s financial fitness class about what steps need to be taken when dealing with the marketplace.
“It’s important for me to help people understand the decisions they make and the options that they have,” Davis said. “This class is focused on personal finances, and part of that is investing. By teaching students about how the markets work, I think we give them valuable information about this class and the future.”
The environment is nothing different for Davis. Along with the multiple clients in-house, the advisor regularly stays active within school systems working with students and providing advice on how to better save money and learn how the market works as they make their way through postsecondary school and then into the workforce.
During the particular class, Davis added he didn’t look at pursuing his current job when he was in school but loved being able to give back — leading him into his role in Elizabethton.
Davis also discussed the trends of how markets worked and fielded questions at the end of the presentation on a variety of topics.
Happy Valley Middle has been busy this year working in different scenarios to help their students prepare for the future. Along with offering these types of semester classes, the school system recently saw 10 eighth graders receive high school credit thanks to online classes offered through a program with the Niswonger Foundation.
Following the class, the financial advisor added he enjoyed his visit and added the schools within the community “continue to amaze me.”
