Police charge Hampton man in string of auto burglaries

Police arrested a Carter County man on Wednesday in connection with a string of auto burglaries in Hampton.
Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeremy Sanderlin, 33, of 197 Browns Branch Road, Hampton, Wednesday and charged him with burglary, theft of property, assault, and resisting stop/arrest.
On Wednesday, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Sanderlin’s home. According to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, investigators obtained the search warrant following an investigation into multiple auto burglaries in the Rittertown Road area of Hampton between Jan. 24 and Jan. 31.
Victims reported numerous items stolen from their vehicles, including clothing, power tools, a chain saw, gift cards, and approximately $1,000 in assorted jewelry items.
Upon execution of the search warrant at the home, officers recovered many of the items reported stolen. Upon discovering the items in the home, investigators arrested Sanderlin. Officers transported Sanderlin to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, where he agreed to speak with investigators. According to the statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, Sanderlin gave investigators a confession in which he admitted to committing the auto burglaries. Sanderlin was recently paroled from a Tennessee Prison in November of 2016 after serving a sentence stemming from similar thefts which occurred in the Stoney Creek community in 2014.
Sanderlin is currently being held in the Carter County Jail on a $19,500 bond.
