Police continue to search for a suspect who robbed a city pharmacy Monday night and stole an undisclosed amount of prescription medication.
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, officers of the Elizabethton Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at CVS Pharmacy, located at 1100 W. Elk Ave. When officers arrived on the scene, they began an immediate search of the area for the suspect, who reportedly fled the pharmacy in the direction of Elizabethton High School.
Elizabethton Police Department Capt. Joy Shoun said no new information regarding the robbery investigation was available on Tuesday, but she did provide a more detailed description of the suspect.
Employees of the pharmacy described the suspect as a Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. The man was wearing a black “beanie,” dark-framed glasses, a Carhart Jumpsuit, and light brown work boots.
“The subject had a mustache and a tattoo next to his right eye and spoke with what was described to be a Hispanic accent,” Shoun said.
Employees told officers that a Hispanic male entered the store, approached the counter and walked into the pharmacy area, Shoun said.
“Witnesses reported that the male subject then brandished a handgun and demanded medications from the pharmacy,” Shoun said. “The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of medication and then left the store.”
No employees or witnesses were injured during the robbery, Shoun said.
On Monday night EPD officers were seen searching the area around the pharmacy as well as patrolling nearby attempting to locate the suspect.
In addition to the officers and investigators with the Elizabethton Police Department, deputies and investigators with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene and joined in the search for the suspect.
Anyone who has any information regarding the armed robbery of the CVS Pharmacy is asked to contact the Elizabethton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (423) 547-6225 or the Crime Stoppers Tips Line at (423) 542-7574.
