Rosella Hughes, 72, of Roan Mountain, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Watauga Medical Center, Boone, N.C., after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Dayton and Cora Bell McKinney Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.
Rosella loved to fish, horseback riding and playing horseshoes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Reva Morgan, Ruby Gorley, Lena Crumley, Zuline Davis, Charlotte Hoilman, Joan Taylor, Bobby Hughes and Julius Hughes.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William Hughes; her children, Veronica Hughes and husband Tommy, Watauga, William Hughes Jr. and wife Kimberly and Israel Hughes and wife Heather, all of Roan Mountain; six grandchildren, Shenna Gardner and husband James, Tabitha Harrison and husband Jon, Jordan Hughes and wife Jordan Nichole, Summer Hughes, Marlee Hughes and Caroline Hughes; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Ava, Ellen, Joel, Cannon and Cade; several nieces and nephews; her honorary sister, Pat Roark; and her honorary daughter, Vanisa Hughes.
Funeral services for Rosella Hughes will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 19, at Blevins Chapel Baptist Church with her son, Rev. Israel Hughes, and Rev. Jon Harrison officiating. Music will be provided by Wendy Buchanan. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Blevins Chapel Baptist Church. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
