Ruby Eva “Granny” Shaffer Vance

Ruby Eva “Granny” Shaffer Vance, 83, of Hampton, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Hillview Health Center after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Virginia Nave Shaffer.
Mrs. Vance was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a retired cook at Hampton Elementary School after 25 years of service. Mrs. Vance was a member of the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church. She loved to make candy and cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Vance, and several brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, VI Vance; a son, Joseph Vance, Deland, Fla.; a granddaughter and her husband, Monica and Jason Phillips, Elizabethton; a great-grandson, Sam Phillips; her sisters, Olive Case and Delores Heaton; and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Phillip Shaffer.
Graveside services for Ruba Eva “Granny” Shaffer Vance will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 8, at the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Whitehead and the Rev. Johnny Vance officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family and family members. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Saturday.
