A local man was injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Hampton after losing control of his truck.
The accident happened on U.S. Highway 19E in the area between Spring Street and Church Street around 6:30 a.m.
Carter County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Andy Bean said the driver of the truck, whose name has not been released, was traveling northbound on the highway when his truck began to hydroplane due to water on the roadway. The truck ran off the right side of the road onto the sidewalk and struck a tree head on.
A rain shower moved through Hampton Tuesday morning and Bean said there was water in the roadway when he arrived on scene. No charges are being placed in connection with the crash.
The driver was able to get out of the truck on his own before officers arrived on scene. Bean said the man was complaining of abdominal pain and had a scrape to his head. The driver was later transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Crews were on scene working to remove the truck for approximately two hours Tuesday morning. Emergency workers had to use a chainsaw to free the truck from tree limbs.
