A variety of topics will be up for discussion during the regularly scheduled Elizabethton City School System Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
One of the items being discussed during the meeting in the potential of a regional work ethics diploma.
According to information provided by the school system, “the First CORE District of Tennessee is wishing to add a Work Ethics Diploma for all school systems. This was originally started in Hamblen, Hawkins and Grainger counties. The plan is to launch this in February 2017 to current juniors so that they will know in advance the goals they can work toward. At that time, ECS would post this to all grades since some of this would affect things outside a student’s senior year.”
The project was in conjunction with Tennessee’s Labor Education Alignment Program (LEAP), which, according to the program’s website, “is designed to ensure colleges are producing graduates with the skills and credentials Tennessee employers actually need. (It is) designed to eliminate the skills gap across the state, programs were established using data-driven proactive research to encourage collaboration between institutions of higher learning and employers.”
Students who obtain a Work Ethics Diploma would be given preference for jobs interviews if they meet other qualification or an industry.
In other business, the board will look at approving a service agreement between ECS and Trane, Inc., to utilize cooperative purchasing through the system’s participation in U.S. Communities. BOE members will also discuss their board policy on religious content of courses.
Along with the scheduled agenda, a handful of students are also scheduled to be recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom and in athletics.
