Charles and Mary married in October 1952. They moved from Evansville, Ind., to Wisconsin in 1962. They also lived in Illinois, Ind., and Michigan before returning to Indiana to live in Marion, Ind., in 1978. Mary worked for three libraries (Danville, Ill., Indiana University-Bloomington, and Marion, Ind.) before retiring in 1995.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents, her sister, Deloris (Grant) Healey, and adopted brother, Wade Sutphin.
