Traffic came to a halt in the afternoon hours on Gap Creek Road after an automobile accident.

Three individuals were rushed to Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) following a head-on collision on Mary Patton Highway in Hampton, neat Loveless Road, Friday evening.
In a preliminary report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. when a 1992 BMW, driven by Paul Angelo Ditrapani, 21, of Hampton was traveling west on the road and lost control on the wet roadway and over corrected. The move caused the BMW to slide across the west bound lane and strike a concrete barrier. After striking the barrier, the vehicle crossed back into the lane, striking a 2012 GMC Canyon truck.
The occupants of the truck, driver Charles Mike Freeman, 71, and passenger Shirley Freeman, 69, both of Rockwood, were transported to JCMC with injuries.
Ditrapani, who was charged with not wearing a seat belt, financial responsibility and due care, was transported to JCMC by Wings.
The investigation by THP showed that the tires on the BMW were worn on the front axle.
No further information on the collision was provided to the Elizabethton Star.
