For what is to be a busy weekend in Carter County, students from across the Tri-Cities have an opportunity to start of the upcoming school year on a right note.
Local churches through the area are working together to put on the eighth annual Back to School Bash, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Harmony Freewill Baptist premise on Saturday, July 30.
“This event could not take place without the support of our local churches, organizations and our volunteers,” Shannon Posada, who helps coordinate the event, said.
Children that take part in the event receive a backpack, age appropriate, for the grade they’re heading into, full of school supplies.
“The event is open to the public, free of charge,” Posada said. “Over the years, we’ve had families come from all over the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties. Our goal is to help every child possible to be in a good situation as the prepare for school.”
The event is free of charge but registration is held at Hampton High School. Once a child is registered, various shuttles will be ran back and forth from the school to Harmony Freewill Baptist.
“We’re very thrilled about the different organizations that are coming to help with the event and willing to give back to the kids in our region,” Posada said.
Burbank Freewill Baptist Church, of Roan Mountain, will perform a skit titled, “May The Lord Be With You”
Once the skit is completed, families will have a chance to participate in multiple activities with free food available.
Different agencies will be represented, allowing individuals participate in activities, including inflatables, temporary tattoos, musical entertainment, wrestlers, Mario & Luigi, and along with a slew of other stations. .
“We just want to share a positive message with the children from the community,” Posada added. “With all the negativity going on in the world, we just want to share the love of God.”
