Gerald “Dean” Phillips

Gerald “Dean” Phillips, 84, of Johnson City, went home to be with his Lord and be reunited with his family on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from the Johnson City Medical Center. Dean was born on August 6, 1931 in Dante, Va., to the late Rural and Susan Hayes Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Anna Ruth Phillips, on June 17, 2015; one brother, Troy Phillips; and one sister, Ruby Baird.
Dean retired from Summers-Taylor, Inc. and was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. Dean was a hard worker and was known as a kind and loving man, who never knew a stranger, but was loved by everyone he met. He was a member of Fellowship Community Church in Watauga and loved keeping up his yard and gardening.
Those left to cherish his memory include four sisters, Naomi “Trixie” Baird, of Johnson City, Polly Gentry and husband Roscoe, of Unicoi, Mary Kearney and husband Carl, of Gray, and Becky Berry, of Erwin; and one brother, Johnny Holloway and wife Jackie, of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews and one special niece, Carmen Glover, also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Gerald “Dean” Phillips will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Ken Hauser officiating. Music will be provided by Rick Sweeney. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The committal and entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, C/O Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in honor of Dean.
