Many local government offices will be closing early on Friday due to the annual Covered Bridge Celebration.
The Carter County Courthouse itself will remain open for normal business hours on Friday, Carter County Mayor Leon Humphrey said.
“It is up to each elected official and appointed office holder to set their office’s schedules and, while some may have chosen to close early that day, the Mayor’s Office will be open normal business hours,” Humphrey said. Normal business hours for Humphrey’s office are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
While the Mayor’s Office will remain open, the county’s other elected and appointed officials have decided to close their offices a half-day on Friday.
The following county offices will open at 8 a.m. and close at Noon on Friday:
• Assessor of Property
• Clerk and Master
• County Clerk
• Election Commission
• Finance Department
• Register of Deeds
• Trustee’s Office
• Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. This includes the clerks for General Sessions, Criminal, Juvenile and Circuit Courts. Both General Sessions Court and Criminal Court are in session on Friday and court appearances will go on as scheduled.
The City of Elizabethton will not be closing any of its offices early due to the festival. The offices at Elizabethton City Hall and the records office at the Elizabethton Police Department will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday as normal.
