Peggy Jean (Rumbley) Shipley, 85, of Watauga, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton. Peggy was born in Watauga, Tenn., and was a daughter of the late James and Selma (Smalling) Rumbley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, John Shipley, in 1989; a daughter, Pamela Shipley; two sons, Jack Shipley and Roger Shipley; one brother, Charles Rumbley; and two granddaughters, Stephanie Shipley and Chanda Shipley.
Peggy had worked for North Electric ITT in the production assembly division and had worked as a sales associate for Walmart for over 12 years. She was of the Christian faith and enjoyed bowling, making ceramics and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include five children, Rick Shipley and wife Kathy of Elizabethton, Donna Treadway and husband Larry of Watauga, Renee Campbell and husband Bill of Morristown, Ken Shipley and wife Sherry of Kingsport, and Tony Shipley and wife Lisa of Watauga; one sister, Vivian Carr of Watauga; two daughters-in-law, Pam Shipley of Johnson City and Cheri Shipley of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Wava Rumbley of Greeneville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Peggy Jean (Rumbley) Shipley will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Estel Williams officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ken Shipley and her grandsons.
