Roan Mountain State Park is opening its pool just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The pool at the State Park will officially open for the season Saturday morning, according to Park Manager J.R. Tinch.
“We’ve had our guards out scrubbing chairs and getting everything ready for the season,” Tinch said.
The pool is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 1-6:45 p.m. The pool is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Admission to the pool is $4 for park visitors but those staying in the campground or one of the park’s cabins get a 50 percent discount and can enjoy the pool for $2. Swimmers seeking the discount for admission must show their receipt for either their campsite or cabin, Tinch said.
Kids under the age of 10 must be accompanied to the pool by an adult, Tinch said.
“That is really our main thing for safety,” Tinch said. “The rest are your typical pool rules such as no running, no horseplaying and no glass around the pool.”
Located next to the park’s pool is the Mini Bob’s Dairyland, a scaled down version of the iconic Roan Mountain restaurant Bob’s Dairyland. The menu at the Mini is not as expansive as the one at the main restaurant, but park visitors and swimmers can still choose from a variety of foods, snacks and cool treats.
“That is open to everybody,” Tinch said. “You don’t have to be at the pool or a park guest to come up and eat there.”
