Contributed Photo Carlie Trent, who was kidnapped by her uncle Gary Simpson, was found safe in Hawkins County Thursday, and Smith is in custody, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed Thursday afternoon that 9-year-old Carlie Trent of Rogersville has been found safe. Her 57-year-old uncle Gary Simpson, is in custody after allegedly kidnapping the girl from school on Wednesday, May 4.
TBI and other investigators in 19 states investigated more than 1,700 leads before locating the two Thursday.
They were located in Hawkins County near the Hancock County line.
