Thanks to some local organizations like the BABE Breastfeeding Coalition of Northeast Tennessee, ReadNPlay and the Carter County Health Department (CCHD), moms get a lot of support. So once a year, the same organizations hold a Daddy Day Camp, in which they celebrate dads with games, lunch, classes and prizes.

“It’s gone really well in the past,” said Jilian Reece, CCHD Health Educator with the Tobacco Settlement. “We’ve had great attendance every year, and dads seem to enjoy getting the ideas, education and support. This year, we thought we’d do something different with the laser tag.”

Last year, the event was held outdoors, but this year, it will take place inside the Recreation Center at 300 W. Mill St. where dads, kids and moms can play laser tag and enjoy lunch and educational classes at no cost. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, and dad, mom and children are invited.

The classes will feature healthy grilling, daddy-daughter hair class, daddy-and-me music, supporting your homeschool family, and tobacco cessation.

A panel of experts at the end of the event will address topics like baby wearing, cloth diapers, breastfeeding and supporting breastfeeding.

“Dads can ask questions and try baby wearing and cloth diapers,” said Reece.

The panel will include Adam Reece, Dr. Justin Digby, Dr. Justin Clark, Dr. Robbie Gorby, Kenny Cornett and Dr. Adam Farmer.

Reece said tons of door prizes will be given away like passes to the shooting range at Barnett’s Guns, free oil changes, restaurant gift cards and H&S hunting prizes.

Representatives from Children’s Hospital, Downtown Chiropractic and other local agencies will be present with educational materials.
