The Red Legacy Recovery Board of Directors announces that Executive Director, Angelee Murray, has been appointed Chairman of the Board for the non-profit organization, and Carolyn Shrader, of Elizabethton, has been named the new Executive Director.

Red Legacy Recovery, based in Elizabethton, began in 2012 and serves women in all eight counties of northeast Tennessee. Its mission is to support women that are in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and to provide them with the skills to become self-confident, self-sufficient and employed. The organization provides life skills, relapse prevention, recovery skills, counseling, social services and transportation to the more than 200 women that have enrolled in the program. All services are free to clients.

In 2015, the organization added a thrift store to the operation, located beside the main office in downtown Elizabethton. The thrift store not only serves as a funding source for the program, but also provides the public with the opportunity to shop for name brand clothing and accessories for a bargain price.

In addition, the thrift store serves the clients of Red Legacy with clothing, accessories, shoes and more that can be purchased with the “Red Bucks” that they earn for attending groups, counseling, paying on fines and costs and reaching new goals in their lives.

“The vision that I had for this organization, almost four years ago, is now becoming a reality,” said Murray. “I had been searching for someone with a heart to serve the women in our program, but someone that also had extensive knowledge and experience in grant writing and funding sources. That person, Carolyn, walked in our doors and offered to volunteer her time and talents. At this moment, I knew that I had found who I was looking for.”

Murray said that her personal strengths are in building community relationships and partnerships, rather than in grant writing, and that she felt that she had accomplished what she set out to do, almost four years ago.

“Transitioning to the Chairman of the Board and hiring Ms. Shrader as Executive Director is the next step for our organization,” Murray said. “I will continue to serve in my capacity and Carolyn will, in hers. I am so super excited and grateful — Red Legacy is on its way to greater things.”

In addition to her new role at Red Legacy Recovery, Murray will be joining the team at Restoration and Wellness, Johnson City, as the Director of Community Outreach and Social Services Programs.

“Restoration and Wellness has a mission to provide our community with the highest quality of care for those with the brain disease of addiction,” said Dr. Cham Johnston. “We provide treatment, education and hope to those fighting the disease. We are excited to add Ms. Angelee Murray to our team. Ms. Murray will help us grow as a practice and expand our behavioral services to our patients.”

Murray also serves on the Board of Directors for both C.H.I.P.S. Family Violence Shelter in Erwin and Evidence Based Addiction Medicine in Johnson City. She is a member of the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition and other community organizations in both Carter and Washington counties and plans to remain active in all of these programs.
