Carl F. Peters

Carl F. Peters, 97, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton. He had resided there for one year after several years of declining health.
Mr. Peters was born in Oslo, Norway and emigrated to the United Sates at age four with his mother and sister. He lived in Illinois for many years and earned a degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois and a Juris Doctor law degree from the John Marshall School of Law in Chicago in 1948.
He worked as a chemist for several years and then became a patent attorney. His legal career was spent at Great Lakes Research as Chief Patent Counsel in Illinois, New York, and then Elizabethton, Tenn. He retired from Great Lakes in 1983.
Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Peters, in December 2004, after 63 years of marriage; by his parents, Carl and Nancy Peters; and a sister, Edith Vanderstok and her husband Bram Vanderstok, both of Honolulu, Hawaii.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Peters, of the home; a son Carl F. Peters of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Tracy Penny, and great-grandson, Laird Penny of Massachusetts; as well as a nephew, Phillip Parker of California.
Susan and Mr. Peters’ family would like to thank Dr. Vivian Clark and the entire staff at Hillview Health Center for taking such wonderful care of Dad. It meant so much and their compassion and care will always be remembered.
It was Mr. Peters’ wish that his remains be donated to the Quillen College of Medicine and there will be no formal service.
