Police are investigating a break-in at a local greenhouse after the owner reported someone stole the business’ cash register.
On Tuesday morning, Carter County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mark McClain responded to Vest Greenhouse, located at 458 Laurels Road, in reference to a break-in that had previously occurred.
“Upon arrival, I spoke with the owner, a Mr. Walter Vest, who advised that at some point ast night or this morning someone broke into his greenhouse and stole the cash register,” McClain said.
Vest told the officer the Casio brand cash register is valued at $300. He also said there was some loose change in the register but most of the money had been removed the night before.
McClain said items at the scene indicated that whoever broke into the greenhouse entered through the building’s back door. The officer also noted that chain saw belonging to Vest was found next to the greenhouse’s back door.
According to Vest nothing other than the cash register was taken and nothing had been damaged during the break-in.
