Betty Jean Arnold Campbell Collins, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. Betty was born in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late James and Lizzie Swift Arnold. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Kenneth Campbell; her second husband, Oliver “Shorty” Collins; two daughters, Della Arnold and Ann Watson; one son, Lee Campbell; one sister; and four brothers.
Betty retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Mary Short and Lynn Ballard, both of Elizabethton; one son, Robert Campbell, of Crestview, Fla.; one brother, John Arnold, of Mountain City; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Betty Jean Arnold Campbell Collins will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. John H. Smith, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Jennifer Hill. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of her daughter, Mary Short, at anytime. A private disposition will be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Amedisys Home Health and the staff of Hermitage Health Center. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, TN 37643, or to the Stoney Creek Fire Department, 114 Herbert Taylor Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
